Council Statement on AMS Membership Dues for 2010

In light of the current economic downturn, at its meeting on January 4, 2009, the AMS Council approved posting the following explanatory paragraph about the dues process:

After extensive review and discussion, the Board of Trustees and the Council of the AMS have reluctantly voted to increase the dues of individual members in accordance with the guidelines adopted by the Trustees in 2003. Regular low dues will increase from \$123 to \$126, and regular high dues from \$164 to \$168. All segments of the mathematics community – individuals, institutions and professional societies – are facing difficult times, and this small increase appears to be the best compromise. However, the AMS governing bodies will continue to monitor the impact of the economic crisis and will revisit options for the dues structure in 2010.
