32. Gordon Thomas Whyburn

Whyburn served as chair of the mathematics department at the University of Virginia from 1934 until 1966. His research was in the fields of topology, cyclic elements, the structure of continua, and homology theory. Whyburn was a member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences.
