The
Mathematical Reviews division of the American Mathematical Society (AMS)
is located in Ann Arbor, Michigan, not far from the campus of the University
of Michigan. The editors are employees of the AMS; they also enjoy many privileges
at the University. At present, the AMS employs over seventy people including
fifteen mathematical editors at Mathematical Reviews. MR's mission is to develop
and maintain the AMS databases covering the published mathematical literature.
The chief responsibility is the development and maintenance of the MR Database,
from which all MR-related products are produced: MathSciNet, the journals Mathematical
Reviews and Current Mathematical Publications,
and MathSciDisc.
An Associate
Editor is responsible for a broad area of mathematics. Editors select
articles and books for coverage, classify these items, determine the type of
coverage, assign selected items for review to reviewers, and edit the reviews
when they are returned. An
individual is sought who has a background in probability or statistics
and is willing to learn new topics in pure and applied mathematics; the
ability to write well in the English language is important, and the
ability to read mathematics in major foreign languages is an advantage.
Evidence of written scholarship in mathematics is expected. The applicant normally
should have at least five years of relevant
academic (or equivalent) experience beyond the Ph.D.
The
twelve-month salary will be commensurate with the experience the applicant
brings to the position. Interested applicants are invited to write (or telephone)
for further information.
Applications (including curriculum vitae; bibliography; and the names,
addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses of at least three
references) and recommendations should be sent to:
