Binghamton University to Host Mathematics MeetingSeptember 29, 2003 PROVIDENCE, RI--Binghamton University will host the 2003 Fall Eastern Section Meeting of the American Mathematical Society October 11-12. Over 300 mathematicians from 36 states and 12 countries will gather at the University for the meeting, the largest research-level mathematics meeting ever held in Binghamton. Highlights of the meeting follow. Six talks by members of the University’s Department of Mathematical Sciences. Those speakers are: Miguel Arcones, Thomas Farrell, Peter Hilton, Dikran Karagueuzian, Marcin Mazur, and Thomas Zaslavsky. Four mathematics faculty members are co-authors of talks. Co-authors are: Paul Loya, Erik Pedersen, Dennis Pixton, and Gaywalee Yamskulna. In addition to the talks, there are 14 mathematics department faculty members who are organizing sessions on 11 areas of research. They are: Laura Anderson, Miguel Arcones (involved with two sessions), Ben Brewster, Alex Feingold, Ross Geoghegan, Thomas Head, Luise-Charlotte Kappe, Paul Loya, Erik Pedersen, Dennis Pixton, Anton Schick, Gaywalee Yamskulna, Qiqing Yu, and Thomas Zaslavsky. Two graduate students in the University Department of Mathematical Sciences, Omar Saldarriaga and Peggy Sullivan, are giving talks at the meeting. Fifteen mathematicians who earned their Ph.D.'s at Binghamton will give talks at the meeting. They are: Manuel Cardenas-Escudero (University of Seville, Spain), Joseph Evan (King's College), Daniel S. Farley (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign), Elizabeth Goode (Towson University), Natasha Jonoska (University of South Florida), Thomas W. Kimber (SUNY Morrisville), Francisco F. Lasheras (University of Seville, Spain), Karl Lorensen (Penn State, Altoona), Michael L. Mihalik (Vanderbilt University), Robert F. Morse (University of Evansville), Joseph A. Petrilllo (Franklin & Marshall College), David Rosenthal (McMaster University, Canada), Daniel C. Slilaty (Wright State University), C. Joanna Su (Providence College), and Zoran Sunik (Texas A&M University). Invited addresses will be given by Peter Kuchment (Texas A&M University), Zlil Sela (Einstein Institute of Mathematics), Zoltan Szabo (Princeton University), and Jeb F. Willenbring (University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee). All invited addresses will take place in Room 1 of the Lecture Hall.
