The prize will be awarded today at the Joint Mathematics Meetings in Baltimore, Maryland. Professor Nakajima is being honored for his work in representation theory and geometry, particularly for three papers: "Quiver varieties and Kac-Moody algebras" (Duke Mathematical Journal, 91(1998), 515-560), "Quiver varieties and finite dimensional representations of quantum affine algebras" (Journal of the AMS, 14(2001), 145-238), and "Heisenberg algebra and Hilbert schemes of points on projective surfaces" (Annals of Mathematics, 145(1997), 379-388).
