University of Oregon to Host Mathematics MeetingOctober 27, 2005 Providence, RI – The University of Oregon will host the 2005 Fall Western Section Meeting of the American Mathematical Society November 11-13. Over 250 mathematicians from 32 states and 7 countries will present talks at the meeting. Department of Mathematics participation in the meeting : There are two talks by faculty in the University’s Department of Mathematics. Those speakers are: Gregory D. Landweber and Yuan Xu. James Isenberg and Brad Shelton are co-authors of talks being given at the meeting. Thirteen mathematics department faculty members are co-organizing special sessions at the meeting. Session organizers are: Arkady Dmitrievich Berenstein, Boris I. Botvinnik, Marcin Bownik, Jonathan W. Brundan, Daniel Dugger, Alexander S. Kleshchev, Gregory D. Landweber, Viktor Ostrik, Alexander Polishchuk, Hal Sadofsky, Brad Shelton, Dev Sinha, and Arkady Vaintrob. Four graduate students in the department are giving talks at the meeting. They are: Paul T. Allen, John F. Carter, Corey M. Dunn, and Matthew Sean Miller. In addition to giving a talk, Corey M. Dunn is chairing one of two contributed paper sessions at the meeting. In addition, four invited addresses will be given at the meeting. Topics of the invited addresses are from both pure and applied mathematics. All invited addresses are in Room 182, Lillis Hall.
