2006 Fields Medals, Nevanlinna Prize, and Gauss Prize Awardedat ICM2006 in Madrid

Providence, RI---Today at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Madrid, the International Mathematical Union (IMU) awarded four Fields Medals and one Rolf Nevanlinna Prize. In addition, the German Mathematical Society jointly with the IMU presented the first-ever Carl Friedrich Gauss Prize. Below is information about the prizewinners.

Fields Medalist: Andrei Okounkov

Citation: "for his contributions to geometry and his revolutionary insights into the analytical and geometric structure of the Ricci flow"
