University of Wisconsin-Madison to Host Mathematics Meeting

Providence, RI:

The University of Wisconsin-Madison will host the Fall Meeting of the Central Section of the American Mathematical Society October 12-13. Approximately 400 mathematicians from 34 states and 16 countries will gather at the University to present results of their research.

Faculty participation in the meeting:

  • Twelve talks by members of the University’s mathematics department, and two by University faculty from outside the mathematics department. Nine mathematics faculty members are co-authors of talks.
  • Among the talks is an invited address, titled Relations Between Gromov-Witten Invariants, by Associate Professor of Mathematics Eleny Ionel. The invited address, one of four at the meeting, will be given Saturday from 11:40 to 12:30 in Van Vleck Hall.
  • In addition to the talks, there are 30 mathematics department faculty members who are organizing sessions on 16 areas of research.
  • Graduate student participation:

  • Two University mathematics graduate students are giving talks as is one graduate student in biotechnology
