University of Utah to Host Mathematics MeetingOctober 2, 2002
Providence, RI: The University of Utah will host the Fall Western Section Meeting of the American Mathematical Society, October 26-27. Over 100 mathematicians from 25 states and 2 countries (besides the U.S.) will gather at the University to present results of their research.
Among these presentations will be five from members of the University’s Department of Mathematics; three by faculty members and two by graduate students. In addition, eight members of the Department of Mathematics faculty have organized sessions on five areas of research.
Four invited addresses, covering a broad spectrum of pure and applied mathematics, will be given at the meeting, two on each day. The topics of the addresses range from geometry and topology to harmonic analysis and partial differential equations as well as dynamical systems. Each invited address is in the John Widstoe Building, room 335.
More information about the meeting can be found here.
Founded in 1888 to further mathematical research and scholarship, the 30,000-member American Mathematical Society fulfills its mission through programs and services that promote mathematical research and its uses, strengthen mathematical education, and foster awareness and appreciation of mathematics and its connections to other disciplines and to everyday life. |
