US and Mexican Mathematicians to Meet in Denton

Providence, RI -- The American Mathematical Society today announced the first-ever Joint Meeting it is sponsoring for the Sociedad Matematica Mexicana. The meeting will bring US and Mexican mathematics researchers together for the first time in the United States. The meeting will be held beginning Thursday, May 19-22. Opening ceremonies for the meeting take place on Wednesday May 19, at 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Lyceum in the University Union of the University of North Texas.

Immediately following the opening ceremonies, the inaugural Erdos Memorial Lecture funded by a grant of Dallas banker D. Andrew Beal, will be given from 7:30 to 8:30 in the Lyceum. The lecture, entitled "Paul Erdos and his favorite problems in number theory" will be given by Dr. Ronald L. Graham of AT&T Labs. Graham a former AMS President was a student, collaborator and friend of the late Professor Erdos.

A full program of individual presentations, panels, and contributed papers will follow on Friday and Saturday.
