Florida State University to Host Mathematics MeetingMarch 2, 2004 PROVIDENCE, RI—Florida State University will host the 2004 Spring Southeastern Section Meeting of the American Mathematical Society March 12-13. Over 200 mathematicians from 30 states and 11 countries will gather at the University for the meeting. Florida State University Department of Mathematics participation in the meeting : There are nine talks by faculty from the University’s Department of Mathematics. Faculty speakers are Richard Bertram, Max Gunzburger, Oleg Kovrizhkin, Michael Mascagni, Craig A. Nolder, Steve Paris, Mark Sussman, and Qi Wang, who is giving two talks at the meeting. Six mathematics faculty members are co-authors of talks. Co-authors are: Richard Bertram, Sergio R. Fenley, Craig A. Nolder, J. R. Quine, De Witt L. Sumners, and Qi Wang, who is a co-author of three talks. Fifteen mathematics department faculty members are organizing sessions on eight areas of research. Those session organizers are: Ettore Aldrovandi, Paolo Aluffi, Richard Bertram, Sergio R. Fenley, Wolfgang H. Heil, Eriko Hironaka, Alec N. Kercheval, Washington Mio, Warren D. Nichols, Craig A. Nolder, Daniel M. Oberlin, J. R. Quine, Mark Sussman, Qi Wang, and Xiaoming Wang, co-organizer of two sessions at the meeting. Two special sessions at the meeting honor three FSU Department of Mathematics emeritus professors. Those sessions are: Special Session on Geometric Topology in Honor of John Bryant and Special Session on Robert Gilmer and Joe Mott: Forty Years of Commutative Ring Theory at Florida State University. Five mathematics graduate students are presenting talks at the meeting: Zhenlu Cui, Jennifer K. Mann, Benoit S. Montin, Parthasarathy Srinivasan, and Achuthan Srisairam. Mack Galloway, also a mathematics graduate student, is a co-author of a talk. Participation by Florida State University personnel from outside the Department of Mathematics :School of Computational Science and Information Technology: Zhi-Feng Huang is presenting a talk co-authored with Jorge Vinals. John Burkardt and Nikolai Simonov are also co-authors of talks . Department of Biological Sciences: Marcel Egli is presenting a talk; Marc E. Freeman and Michael T. Sellix are two of the co-authors of the talk. Institute of Molecular Biophysics: Thomas M. Asbury and Marcia O. Fenley are giving talks at the meeting. College of Engineering: Anke Meyer-Baese is presenting a talk at the meeting.
