Journal overview: The Bulletin publishes expository articles on contemporary mathematical research, written in a way that gives insight to mathematicians who may not be experts in the particular topic. The Bulletin also publishes reviews of selected books in mathematics and short articles in the Mathematical Perspectives section, both by invitation only.

1891 to present online: Readers may now view every issue of the Bulletin, beginning with the inaugural issue published in 1891. Past issues of the Bulletin are searchable and fully integrated with the modern Bulletin. The digitization of the backfiles of the Bulletin of the American Mathematical Society (1891-1991) was made possible with the generous support of the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation through a grant to the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute. The American Mathematical Society makes all issues of the Bulletin freely available to all mathematicians through the generosity of its members. The archive is also online at Project Euclid. To access this material click on "All Issues: 1891-Present".

Submission information: Information can be found on the journals Peer Review Submissions page.

Copyright ownership is indicated in the notice in the lower right-hand corner of the first page of each article.

Publishing cycle: The Bulletin of the American Mathematical Society is published quarterly with articles posted individually to the AMS website before appearing in an issue. Beginning with the January 1992 issue, the Bulletin is accessible from http://www.ams.org/bull/ .

Indexing and archiving notes: This journal is indexed in Mathematical Reviews, Science Citation Index®, Science Citation IndexT--Expanded, ISI Alerting Services, CompuMath Citation Index®, and Current Content®/Physical, Chemical & Earth Sciences.  This journal is archived in Portico.

Subscriptions: Subscriptions to this journal can be obtained through the AMS Bookstore . Subscriptions and orders can also be addressed to the American Mathematical Society, P.O. Box 845904, Boston, MA 02284-5904 USA. All orders must be accompanied by payment. Other correspondence should be addressed to American Mathematical Society, 201 Charles Street, Providence, RI 02904-2294 USA.

Backlog information: As of October 31, 2009, the backlog for this journal was approximately 1 issue. This estimate is the result of reducing the number of manuscripts for this journal in the Providence office that have not yet gone to the printer on the above date by the number of articles assigned to issues to be published in four months (the time necessary for editing and composing a typical issue). In an effort to make articles available as quickly as possible, articles are posted to the AMS website individually after proof is returned from authors and before appearing in an issue.

Inquiries: Any inquiries concerning a paper that has been accepted for publication that cannot be answered via the manuscript tracking system should be sent to bull-query@ams.org or directly to the Electronic PrePress Department, American Mathematical Society, 201 Charles Street, Providence, RI 02904-2294 USA.
