Recommended Mathematics and Non-mathematics Courses

Mathematics/Statistics Courses:

• Linear Algebra (with an applied bent, e.g., Strang's "Linear Algebra & Its Applications)
• Numerical Analysis/Methods (esp. ODE, PDE and linear algebra)
• Ordinary Differential Equations (Hirsch/Smale level)
• Partial Differential Equations
• Something with Fourier theory
• Stochastic processes
• A graduate level "applied math" course would be nice (e.g. Stakgold, Keener or Strang's "Introduction to Applied Mathematics")

Statistics Courses:

• Graduate-level Applied Statistics
• Biostatistics
• Some introduction to Experimental Design

Non-mathematics Courses:

• Biochemistry (and prerequisites)
• Introductory molecular biology
• A programming course that emphasizes programming style and team programming
• A programming course that teaches the popular language of the day (e.g. C++ or Java right now): to give you a chance at a good summer job or a foot in the door at a company that doesn't realize how useful mathematicians can be)
• Signal and/or image processing
• As much chemistry and physics as possible
