Motivations for giving are diverse. Some people give to shape
the future, while others give to strengthen opportunities today.
Some people give to accomplish personal goals, while others want to
perpetuate their beliefs or values. Some people value the help they
once received and hope to help the next generation in return. Still
others give because they are confident their investment in the AMS
will be well used. Maintaining the excellence of mathematical
research and the health of the mathematical community requires
participation and involvement of many individuals. It can be a
lifelong passion. The AMS is deeply grateful to all who have supported the AMS and its many programs. Come help the AMS support and enrich research mathematics by giving to the AMS. Tax Benefits of Giving A gift to the AMS entitles you to the federal income tax deduction available for charitable contributions. Depending on the type of gift and your personal financial situation, you may be entitled to a deduction up to 50 percent of your adjusted gross income. See your tax advisor for assistance in determining the tax savings that will result from your gift. Where Support is Needed In 1999, the Epsilon Fund was established to support programs for talented high school students. The Society created the Epsilon Fund, and designated it as an endowment for the Society's support of young scholars programs. The AMS Epsilon Fund for Young Scholars has been funded by contributions of AMS members and friends; this endowment will provide at least US$100,000 in support each summer. An endowment is a sure way to provide continuing support. AMS has other programs that touch different goals and the AMS continues to need your support to keep pace with the changing needs of the mathematical community. Gifts help the lives of many students and improve our chances to attract and retain the best people for mathematical research, regardless of their financial circumstances. Your tax-deductible gift to the AMS can be directed in a variety of ways. You may target your gift for a specific program, such as the Epsilon Fund, or you may leave your gift unrestricted -- to be used for needs as they arise. AMS provides recognition opportunities for donors regardless of how their gifts are directed. Those who provide deferred gifts, through a bequest or other estate planning vehicle, are eligible for membership in the Fiske Society. Please speak with the AMS Development Office if you need more information about the benefits of giving. |
