2010 Employment Center Information for Employers
New in 2010, this year, all forms will be submitted and accessed electronically on the web. In addition, registered attendees will also be able to utilize a basic scheduling tool in advance on the web. The same applicant and job information available on the Employment Center/EIMS website during the months preceding the event in San Francisco will be accessible during the JMM on computer terminals available at the Employment Center. There will be no printed books or paper forms. Also, there will be no paper message center since the new electronic system allows for interview arrangements. As of 2009, the on-site computer-scheduling program was discontinued. The new electronic system represents a significant enhancement of the Employment Center.
- one or two interviewers per table in the "Quiet Area" (US$265; additional table $100);
- three to six interviewers per table in the "Committee Table" area (US$365; additional table $100)
Any representatives of the institution can sit at the table together or working in shifts (however, each table type has a limit for the number of interviewers that can be present at the same time). Employment Center fees should be paid only for each table required, not for each person. When registering for a table, a job listing must be submitted. Those who wish to rent a table and NOT utilize any job listing may register the same way as below, but not post a job advertisement.
- Registration is now open. Please follow registration steps below. Use of the EIMS website is through password-accessible accounts, one per employer. Please select an EMPLOYMENT CENTER ("Career Fair") package, place your ad and select your table type, paying all fees on the website. Whoever places the ad will want to make careful note of the account access password in case faculty or other personnel need to access the resume review and scheduling features in the months leading up to the Employment Center. Once registered, employers will gain access to applicant data as it is submitted to the site. There will be applicant resumes on the site, but employers will want to notice especially the resumes marked Employment Center. Also, employers can review and sort the requests for interviews submitted by applicants on the system (there will often be resumes and other documents accessible in the system). To respond to a request, employers will be able to access the applicant's pre-approved schedule and fill in the desired slot or slots. In this way, employers will build their own schedule, which is also privately viewable on the system.
- Please note that the traditional advertising site on the AMS website, EIMS, now also serves as the ad placement site for the Employment Center. Contact the AMS with questions (Steve Ferrucci at 401-455-4113 or emp-info@ams.org). All fees are to be paid at the EIMS ad website; fees are no longer paid through the JMM registration form. However, individual registration for the JMM is required for all interviews and no admittance is possible without a JMM badge.
- All employers planning to enter the Employment Center even just for one interview must present a 2010 Joint Meeting Registration badge or they will be denied admittance. This is not a new policy, but it will now be strictly enforced. Meeting badges are obtained by registering for the Joint Mathematics Meetings. The deadline for obtaining a badge at the advance rate is December 22, 2009. See the JMM website
Employers will be registered when they have completed the following steps:
- Select a "Career Fair" package at eims.ams.org.
- Upload an ad, or re-use a previous EIMS ad and pay appropriate fees on the same website.
- Register each interviewer as an attendee at the Joint Mathematics Meetings
Scheduling Interviews
The person who registers should save the login information so that others may log into the account to look over applicant information and documents, and make a schedule. Employers, after logging in at eims.ams.org, will see applicant names appear on their list of potential interviewees (this is a list of registered applicants who have requested an interview with your institution). Clicking a column name will sort the list by that column's data. Employers can ignore some requests and fulfill others by clicking through to the schedule screen and adding an appointment. Employers can also access their own schedules on the system. If setting appointments without going through the web scheduling system, please alert the applicant that there is no admittance to the room without a meeting badge.
Registration on Site
Full registration is possible on site; it will necessitate a commitment of time to register and pay using a computer in the Employment Center area, review applicants, and set appointments. Since there is no paper message center, setting appointments on site must happen through the computer system. Therefore it would be advantageous to register and pay PRIOR to traveling to San Francisco, to give applicants time to enter themselves on your potential applicant list (from which you control all interview arrangements).
To participate in the interviewing program by using a Table Only, not posting an ad or accessing applicant data, purchase a "career fair" table at eims.ams.org, pay for it, but do not upload or select an ad. This gives you access to applicant data, but prevents applicants from seeing your information; it also prevents you from utilizing the system's scheduling features, so therefore you will have to schedule independently through email or some other means.
To display an ad on site, and use NO Employment Center services or tables at all, submit your one page paper ad on site to the Employment Center staff. Staff will display it on a bulletin board. There is no fee for this service.
Note: the MAA strongly recommends that interviews not take place in sleeping rooms.
