Other Sources of Data in the Mathematical SciencesSpecial Reports
by David J. Lutzer, Stephen B. Rodi, Ellen E. Kirkman and James W. Maxwell The CBMS2005 survey collected data on enrollment, curriculum, bachelors degrees granted, course availability and faculty demographics using a stratified random sample of the roughly 2,500 programs and departments of mathematics and statistics in two and four-year colleges and universities in the United States. Furthermore, the CBMS2005 survey collected detailed information about first-year courses in calculus and statistics. In addition, special one-time topics included: the continuing impact of the calculus-reform movement; the mathematical education of pre-service K - 8 teachers; academic resources available to undergraduates; dual enrollment, a relatively new way for high school students to receive college credit for courses taken in high school; mathematics in the general education curriculum; requirements of the national mathematics major; and assessment practices in college and university mathematics and statistics departments. Copies of reports of the 1990, 1995 and 2000 CBMS surveys are also available. AMS Special Reports
