Congress studies U.S. Science PolicyComments invited from science communityThe House Science Committee is working on a new, long-range, science and technology policy for the United States. Representative Vernon Ehlers (R-MI), a member of the Committee and a former professor physics, is leading the study. Ehlers will base his report in part on conversations with the science community. Mathematicians have been involved since the beginning of the study, participating in roundtable discussions (see Arthur Jaffe statement, October 23, 1997 ), and recently meeting with scientists and Congressional staff working with Congressman Ehlers on the study. Members of the mathematics community are invited to share their thoughts about the future needs of science and technology. A series of questions are posted on the House Science Committee's Science Policy Study page, where you may also submit your comments. In addition to background on the study, and reports on the roundtable discussions held so far, the site also offers the 1945 Vannevar Bush Report, and the report "Analysis of Ten Selected Science and Technology Policy Studies" by the Congressional Research Service.
