PostScript and DVI files no longer available

The AMS no longer provides its journal content in PostScript or DVI format. In the years since the AMS began publishing journal articles online, PDF has emerged as the industry standard for online document delivery. Most importantly, PDF provides portability and security features that maximize our ability to ensure that the document you receive is identical to the authoritative printed version.

DVI files suffer from two major portability problems: Neither graphics nor font definitions can be embedded in them, so there is no way to make them self-contained. PostScript files can be self-contained, but often only at the cost of either sacrificing print quality or accepting a considerable file size penalty. In addition, neither DVI nor PostScript files can be locked against unauthorized modifications. These facts, combined with the profusion of free PDF viewers, have led us to conclude that it is neither necessary nor in the best interests of our community to continue providing content in the more limited, less portable and less secure DVI and PostScript formats.
