Abstract: We investigate the behavior of the solution of where is the Laplace operator, is a constant, , and is a nonnegative bounded continuous function in . The main results are for the case when the initial value has polynomial decay near . Assuming with , , various questions of global (in time) existence and nonexistence, large time behavior or life span of the solution are answered in terms of simple conditions on , , and the space dimension .
