AMS BIG Career Development and Job Search Workshop

Learn about about careers and jobs in business, industry, government, entrepreneurship, and nonprofits - BIG!

The first workshop was held at the University of Wisconsin--Madison. Students and others interested in career options asked questions and heard experiences of mathematical scientists Neal Coleman, Prepared Health, Sven Leyffer, Argonne National Laboratories, and Ben Otto, National Security Agency. The panelists shared how they apply mathematics in their jobs and what qualities their employers look for in candidates, and they looked over resumes of some of the attendees.

This was an opportunity to network, learn from guest panelists from the BIG arena, and engage in brief resume consultations (which required separate registration). Held in conjunction with the AMS Fall Central Sectional Meeting, this free event was geared toward graduate students and early career mathematicians, but all were welcomed to get insights about how mathematical training can lead to BIG careers and jobs.
