Über den Inhalt von §1 and §2 habe ich Februar 1950 ein Kolleg und auf dem Internationalen Mathematikerkongreß in Cambridge vorgetragen (auf dem Kongreß ohne Ausführung der Beweise). Der Hauptteil der übrigen Untersuchungen (mit Ausnahme von §3) entstand im Frühjahr 1950; eine skizzenhafte Übersicht wird in den Berichten des Internationalen Mathematikerkongresses erscheinen. Inzwischen ist eine völlig unabhängig von mir entstandene Arbeit von HerrnO. Goldman erschienen, in der im wesentlichen der gleiche Stoff behandelt worden ist wie von mir hier in §1 und §2, (Goldman [2]). Vgl. hierzu die Anmerkungen3),11),12).
