The International Conference on Cryptology & Malicious Security hosted in Malaysia (Mycrypt 2016) is the first of its kind, in the sense of focus on thinking outside the box for cryptology & security. In recent years, substantial breakthroughs have been made in crypto, including notions pertaining to malicious security, i.e. where security is no longer just against bad guys but where good guys who are conventionally viewed as mostly defensive can equally be adversarial. The time is now ripe to focus on paradigm-shifting crypto research & thinking outside the current box.
