"Review of Why Flip A Coin?" by Laurence A. Marschall. The Sciences, July/August 1997, pages 44-45.

This brief piece presents a review of the book Why Flip a Coin? by H.W. Lewis. The book contains many examples of instances in which statistical evidence was ignored in favor of hunches or prejudices, with the result that poor decisions were made. The book also discusses areas, such as voting, where mathematical analysis is of little help in pointing to the best choice. According to the reviewer, Lewis has a "flinty wit and sharp sense of irony."
