Review of "Chaos: An Introduction to Dynamical Systems," by Kathleen T. Alligood, Tim D. Sauer, and James A. Yorke. Reviewed by J. A. Riall. American Scientist, September-October 1997, pages 487-488. (Also reviewed in Physics Today by J. D. Crawford, November 1997, pages 67-68.)
According to the review, this book provides an excellent basic introduction to the theory of dynamical systems. Readers are assumed to have mathematical background that includes calculus, linear algebra, and differential equations. While not intended for the lay reader, the book "is by far the most complete introduction to chaos theory available in a single text." the reviewer writes.
