"Andre Weil (1906-98): One of the century's most influential pure mathematicians," by Robert P. Langlands. Nature, 29 October 1998, page 848.

This obituary for Andre Weil describes his life and his mathematical achievements, which center in the areas of number theory and algebraic geometry. In addition to his research, Weil was well known for his elegant writing and for his founding of the Bourbaki group, which had a deep influence on mathematics, especially in France.
