"Swedish Computer Team Crack 10 of the World's Toughest Codes," by Reuters. New York Times, 12 October 2000.
In his popular work The Code Book, Simon Singh offered a prize of 10,000 pounds (about US$15,000) to anyone who could decipher 10 difficult codes. A team of five computer buffs in Sweden used many hours of high-powered comuter time to crack the problems. "The challenge had obsessed thousands of codebreakers around the world," the story says.
