Chaos theory predicts that small changes in, for example, wind speed, can have dramatic effects on the weather. Chaos theorists examining computer models of weather prediction found that small changes in the wind had no effect on the weather for most of the globe, but there were a few "hot spots" that were greatly affected. Weather forecasters already know such hot spots exist, but this new result might help them locate the hot spots more efficiently.
