Short Summaries of Articles about Mathematics

"Let's Have Sum Fun." Re/Views, Discover, September 2001, page 80.

Everyone knows that math, in the form of probability, lurks behind every card game. But two new games make math their explicit focus, and in the more recognizable form of arithmetic. The first, called 1-2-3 OY!, uses a deck of cards numbered 1 through 16 with wild OY! cards interspersed. It can be used to play many games, all of which involve lickety-split arithmetic and periodic yells of "OY!" The second game goes by the name of Zetre, and features three dice as well as its own deck. It too will keep your reflexes sharp and have your brain dancing with numbers.
