"Playing by quantum rules," by Erica Klarreich. Nature, 15 November 2001.
"Game theory has been used to study problems from nuclear warfare to animal behavior. Now physicists are extending it into the quantum realm, opening a new range of potential applications," the article says. One application would be to devise an algorithm that would allow a quantum computer to factor numbers much more efficiently than a "classical" computer; another would create algorithms---rephrase games---that would "compete" to find a particular entry in a database, for instance.
