"Statistics: Tool for Life Gets Short Shrift," by Richard Rothstein. The New York Times, 28 November 2001.
The writer advocates that students---future citizens---need "grounding in data analysis." Rothstein reports that across the nation educators are trying to rectify the imbalance between calculus and statistics in the high school math curriculum. Knowledge of statistics and probability "will be important because common debates about health, justice, economic and legal policy all assume familiarity with statistics."
