"50 Most Important Women in Science," by Kathy A. Svitil. Discover, November 2002.
Ingrid Daubechies, Professor of Mathematics and Applied and Computational Mathematics, Princeton University, is the only mathematician profiled in this article. Her wavelets are used by scientists and engineers for data compression and encryption. A sidebar article, "Fame Passed Them By," profiles some women scientists who were not always credited for their contributions: Emmy Noether (1882-1935) devised a theorem that Einstein later acknowledged helped him formulate his general theory of relativity.
