"Mathematician, physician, engineer and charlatan---Girolamo Cardano was one of the great polymaths of the Italian renaissance," the reviewer writes. He notes that this book, written with no attempt at presenting a clear chronology, appears strange to modern readers. Nevertheless "it is imposible not to admire [Cardano's] restless mind and refreshingly candid reflections".
