The cover story for this issue is about Stephen Wolfram's claim regarding his discovery of a new way of doing science. His book, A New Kind of Science, is now in its fifth printing (more about the book can be found in a July 2002 digest here). A conference on Wolfram's work was held this past June in Waltham, Massachusetts. Weiss presents viewpoints for and against Wolfram's claims.
