Science announces that Erik Demaine, assistant professor at MIT, has been awarded a US$500,000 MacArthur Fellowship---commonly called "genius award." Demaine was home-schooled before entering college at age 12 and received his Ph.D. in 2001 from the University of Waterloo. He is a computer scientist with a special interest in computational geometry.
