Nature reports that the Institute of Mathematical Sciences, a top-level mathematics institute at Imperial College London, is scheduled to open in early 2005. Phil Hall, a mathematician at Imperial College will serve as the first director of the institute that will host six applied research groups. The brief article touches on the areas of study and funding issues.
