The abstracts offered here are based on those that were distributed in the booklet of Abstracts given out at the ICM. They are given here by kind permission of the IMU Secretary, Jacob Palis, and President, David Mumford, and of the Secretary of the Congress, Christian Blatter, as well as of the Editor of the Proceedings, S. D. Chatterji. The Proceedings have since been published by Birkhäuser Press, and thanks are due to Anne A'Campo of Birkhäuser for agreeing to the posting of these early versions of the abstracts of the talks.
