The AMS Meetings & Conferences Department again managed the Joint Math Meetings registration logistics, and the AMS and MAA co-sponsored a first-time Graduate School Fair.

AMS 25-Year Member Banquet

The AMS Banquet on Wednesday night, January 9 was well attended, and served as a festive end to the 2008 Joint Mathematics Meetings. Dr. John Ewing, AMS Executive Director, welcomed members, nonmembers and guests. Everyone enjoyed a quiz featuring clues and photos (some from very early life) of various mathematical luminaries. Some attendees claimed very high scores on the challenge. During the evening an award was given to the longest-term member present at the banquet. The actual longest-term member there was Peter Lax, whose membership began in 1945, but because he had previously won the prize in 2005, the award went to Martin Davis, whose membership spans back to 1947.
