Accommodations
Participants should make their own arrangements directly with the hotel of their choice. Special discounted rates were negotiated with the hotels listed below. Quoted rates are exclusive of applicable state and local taxes, currently, 18.1% and other hotel fees may apply. Participants must state that they are with the American Mathematical Society's (AMS) Fall Central Sectional Meeting to receive the discounted rate. The AMS is not responsible for any rate changes or for the quality of any of the accommodations. Hotels have different cancellation and early checkout penalties, so please ask for details.

Housing Warning
Please beware of aggressive housing bureaus that target potential participants of a meeting. They are sometimes called "room poachers" or "room-block pirates" and these companies generally position themselves as a meeting's housing bureau, convincing participants to unknowingly book outside the official room blocks. They call people who they think will more likely than not attend a meeting and lure them with room rates that are significantly less than the published group rate -- for a limited time only. People who find this offer tempting may hand over their credit card data, believing they have scored a great rate and their housing is a done deal. Unfortunately, this often turns out to be the start of a long, costly nightmare.
Note that some of these room poachers create fake websites on which they represent themselves as the organizers of the meeting and include links to book rooms, etc. The only official website for this meeting is ams.org and one that has the official AMS logo.
These housing bureaus are not affiliated with the American Mathematical Society or any of its meetings, in any way. The AMS would never call anyone to solicit reservations for a meeting. The only way to book a room at a rate negotiated for an AMS Sectional Meeting is via a listing on this site. The AMS cannot be responsible for any damages incurred as a result of hotel bookings made with unofficial housing bureaus.

Registration and Meeting Information
This meeting is being planned as an in-person meeting only. Virtual options cannot be accommodated. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
In an effort to spread the cost of the sectional meetings more equitably among all who attend and hence help keep registration fees low, you must be registered for a sectional meeting in order to submit an abstract for that meeting. You will be prompted to register on the Abstracts Submission Page.

Registration fees help support a wide range of activities associated with planning, organizing, and conducting these meetings.
- Please note that that only AMS members with the emeritus membership type are eligible for the emeritus rate. If you are a life member and eligible for the emeritus rate, please check with AMS Customer Service to update your membership.
- The member registration rate is available to any AMS Corporate Member employee who is not an AMS individual member. To receive this discounted registration rate, please contact mmsb@ams.org.
- In the event that your abstract is not accepted or you have to cancel your participation in the program due to unforeseen circumstances, your registration fee will be reimbursed.
- Program booklets will no longer be provided for the sectional meetings. However, the most updated program information will be at your fingertips with the Meeting Mobile App and the links to the program pages that will be available on ams.org.
Register online and follow these steps:
- After clicking on "Register," you will be asked to enter your email address, and then log in to your account, or create a web account if you do not already have one. This only requires a username (email address), password, name, and address. If you already have a web account with us, please log in with your username (email address) and password. Please make sure that the email address that you are using is current, as we will send any pertinent updates to this email.
- Once you create and/or login to the account, continue on to register for the meeting. The same username and password may be used to register for all future sectional meetings.
Registering someone else: If you are planning to register someone else, verify that that person has an AMS web account. If they do not have a web account, please have them go to Register for a web account, or email AMS Customer Service to create one. You do not have to be a member to have an AMS web account. It is also possible that an AMS member does not have a web account, if they have never shopped at our bookstore, or registered online for a meeting. Ask for the email address associated with their web account, and use this to register them. When you click on the registration form, choose "Register Someone Else." Please first login with your personal AMS web account. If you do not have one, please create one. Enter the email address associated with your account, and then your password. If will ask you if you want to register someone else, or yourself. Click "someone else," and enter the email address belonging to the person’s web account. Click on the green box that says "Check." Choose the person, and continue the registration.
We hope that you will find this system easy to use. Once your information is in our system, you will not have to enter your information for any future sectional meetings, unless it has changed, thus making your registration faster and easier. For any questions or concerns about this process, please contact the Mathematics Meetings Service Bureau.
Cancellations: Participants may cancel registrations made in advance by emailing the Mathematics Meetings Service Bureau. 100% refunds will be issued for any advance registrations cancelled by the end of the day (11:59 EDT) on September 13, 2024. After this date, no refunds will be issued for this meeting. However, if the AMS cancels this meeting or converts it to a virtual meeting with different fees, 100% refunds will be issued to every registered participant.
The registration desk will be open on Saturday, September 14 from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm and on Sunday, September 15 from 8:00 am to noon. It will be located on the campus of UTSA in the McKinney Humanities Building, at the main entrance on the second level. This meeting is cashless. The same fees listed above apply for registration during the meeting and are only payable by a credit card. Please note that the only way to register for this meeting is online, before or during the meeting. If you register by September 11, you may pick up your pre-printed badge at the desk. After this date, please show your receipt at the registration desk, and there will be materials available for you to make a badge.
Room Locations On-site: The registration desk and the AMS book exhibit and coffee service will be located in the UTSA McKinney Humanities Building at the main entrance on the second level. Invited Address lectures will be located in the Richard S. Liu Auditorium located in the Business Building (BB) on the 2nd Level in Hallway 01 in Room 02. Special Sessions and Contributed Paper Sessions will take place in the Business Building (BB) and McKinney Hall. See the University of Texas San Antonio Campus Map.
All-gender restrooms will be found in the UTSA McKinney Hall (MH) near the registration area on the 2nd Level and in the Business Building (BB) on the 2nd Level. The parent nursing room is located on UTSA in John Peace Library (JPL) on the 1st Level and in McKinney Hall (MH) on the 2nd Level.
Accessibility Information: The buildings at UTSA are ADA accessible with assisted open entrances that offer doors with electronics installed to make them open automatically or via a nearby push-button. Accessibility Ramps are located across campus to assist with building/area access. Ramps help wheelchair users, as well as people pushing strollers, carts, or other wheeled objects, to more easily access a building, or navigate between areas of different heights. Well-Being Protocols
Due to the ending of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency Declaration on May 11, 2023 and newly released COVID-19 guidelines in 2024 by the CDC, the following protocols are in place for this conference:
- Participants, including staff and volunteers, are no longer requested to be vaccinated or tested.
- Wearing a mask is optional and will be based on individual comfort levels. Extra masks will be available at the registration desk, while quantities last.
- If anyone has been exposed to COVID-19 within 72 hours of coming to the meeting, they should wear a mask throughout the conference.
- If anyone tested positive for COVID-19 within 72 hours before coming to the meeting, they should come to the meeting only if they have been fever-free and have improved symptoms 24 hours before coming, and agree to wear a mask throughout the conference.
- If anyone tests positive for COVID-19 during the meeting and have a fever, they should isolate in their room until they are fever free and have improved symptoms. They should also agree to wear a mask throughout the conference.
The AMS is committed to the well-being of all participants at this conference and will continue to share any updates.
Child Care Grants
The AMS will provide a limited number of reimbursement grants of US\$125 per family to help with the cost of child care for registered participants at the meeting. The funds may be used for any form of child care that frees a parent to participate more fully in the meeting. Grants will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, one per family, and one per season (i.e. Spring or Fall), the latter depending on the amount of grants available. Registration for the meeting as well as membership in the AMS is required to apply for this program.
Applications were accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until July 23, 2024. Final decisions on recipients will be made on or before August 13, 2024. More applications were received for this meeting than grants available.
Special Needs
It is the goal of the AMS to ensure that its conferences are accessible to all, regardless of disability. The AMS will strive to make all as accessible as possible.

AMS Policy on a Welcoming Environment
The AMS strives to ensure that participants in the Sectional Meetings enjoy a welcoming environment. In all its activities, the AMS seeks to foster an atmosphere that encourages the free expression and exchange of ideas. The AMS supports equality of opportunity and treatment for all participants, regardless of gender, gender identity or expression, race, color, national or ethnic origin, religion or religious belief, age, marital status, sexual orientation, disabilities, or veteran status.
Harassment is a form of misconduct that undermines the integrity of the AMS, and its activities and missions.
The AMS will make every effort to maintain an environment that is free of harassment, even though it does not control the behavior of third parties. A commitment to a welcoming environment is expected of all participants of AMS activities, including mathematicians, students, guests, staff, contractors and exhibitors, and participants in scientific sessions and social events. To this end, the AMS will include a statement concerning its expectations towards maintaining a welcoming environment in registration materials for the Sectional Meetings, and has put in place a mechanism for reporting violations. Violations may be reported confidentially and anonymously to 855-282-5703 or on the website. The reporting mechanism ensures the respect of privacy while alerting the AMS to the situation.
MathSafe
MathSafe is a program by and for the mathematical community to support safe and welcoming meetings. MathSafe volunteers will be available at the meeting to listen to and guide participants who experience harassing behavior.

Code of Conduct
The Code of Conduct (Code) applies to all participants at all American Mathematical Society (AMS) conferences, meetings, events, and other organized activities regardless of location or the capacity in which a person is attending, be it as an organizer, delegate, speaker, sponsor, exhibitor, or in any other capacity. Participants are expected to uphold the principles set out in the Code at all times during the event.
Broadcasting, Photographing, and Videotaping Policy
The recording or broadcasting of any AMS or joint-sponsored event, talk, and session by any other party is strictly forbidden without the explicit written permission of the AMS Executive Director or AMS Director of Meetings and Conferences. To obtain permission, send your request by email to Meetings to the attention of the AMS Director of Meetings and Conferences. Having submitted a request form does not constitute temporary authority, and approval will not be given orally. Please allow sufficient time for the approval process to be completed. Allow at least two weeks from time of receipt of request by AMS.
Photographs and videos of meeting interactions will be taken by professional photographers and videographers hired or arranged by AMS. These photographs and videos may occasionally be used for publicity purposes. By participating in the Sectional Meetings, participants acknowledge that their photograph or a video that includes them may be published in material produced by the AMS. AMS shall not be responsible for unauthorized photographs, videos, or other images not taken by professional photographers hired or arranged by the AMS.
Under no circumstances will anyone be permitted to take pictures or videos of a single person without that person’s permission.
Travel Grants
Applications for any one of the Fall sectional meetings will be accepted and considered as a group. This program accepts applications from current full-time doctoral students at North American institutions. Sectional travel grants will only be awarded once. See more information.

This meeting will take place on the main campus of the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) located at One UTSA Circle, San Antonio, TX 78249. See the University of Texas San Antonio Campus Map.

Parking: The UTSA Parking Map shows that the parking lots (free on weekends) that are the best options are Devine Avenue Lot (D), Employee A, Employee B, and unmarked Commuter spaces. The Devine Avenue Lot address is 5 Paseo Del Norte, San Antonio, TX 78249. There are two covered garages available: Bauerle Road Garage (BRG) and Ximenes Avenue Garage (XAG), which charge an hourly rate of $2.50. Payment for these parking lots can be made via mobile pay station, or at the garage cashier window. There will be signage leading attendees to registration.
Travel

By Air
San Antonio International Airport (SAT) is about 13.2 miles from the campus and is the most convenient air travel choice. By car, it takes less than 20 minutes to get to UTSA from San Antonio International Airport. Please visit the San Antonio International Airport website for a list of airlines and lists of cities with daily flights.
Ground Transportation
There are several options available for transportation to and from the airport listed on the San Antonio International Airport website under ground transportation.
Directions to Campus: For directions to campus, please enter One UTSA Circle, San Antonio, TX 78249 into your GPS or web browser. Walking, biking, public transportation, ride share, and personal cars are recommended as means to get around campus and San Antonio.
By Bus: The VIA Metropolitan Transit provides local bus services throughout Downtown San Antonio and to the campus. See maps and schedules. Routes 93, 501, and 603 go to the campus. Please also see the VIA Trip Planner.
By Train: Amtrak services San Antonio, Texas via the train station SAS Station, located at 350 Hoefgen Street, San Antonio, TX 78205. The station is located 18 miles from campus.
Ride Share: Other local transportation options include Uber and Lyft.
By Taxi: Taxi services include zTrip San Antonio and Alamo City Taxi.

Weather
The average high temperature for September is in the 90’s Fahrenheit and the average low is in the low 70’s. Visitors should be prepared for hot weather and check weather forecasts in advance of their arrival.

Information for International Participants
Visa regulations are continually changing for travel to the United States. Visa applications may take from three to four months to process and require a personal interview, as well as specific personal information. International participants should view the important information about traveling to the U.S. If you need a preliminary conference invitation in order to secure a visa, please send your request to the meeting specialist.
If you discover you do need a visa, the National Academies website provides these tips for successful visa applications:
- Visa applicants are expected to provide evidence that they are intending to return to their country of residence. Therefore,applicants should provide proof of “binding” or sufficient ties to their home country or permanent residence abroad. This may include documentation of the following: Family ties in home country or country of legal permanent residence, property ownership, bank accounts, or an employment contract or statement from employer stating that the position will continue when the employee returns.
- Visa applications are more likely to be successful if done in a visitor’s home country than in a third country.
- Applicants should present their entire trip itinerary,including travel to any countries other than the United States, at the time of their visa application.
- Include a letter of invitation from the meeting organizer or the US host, specifying the subject, location and dates of the activity, and how travel and local expenses will be covered.
- If travel plans will depend on early approval of the visa application, specify this at the time of the application.
- Provide proof of professional scientific and/or educational status (students should provide a university transcript).
