Please note the deadlines on the housing and registration form (Participant Information Sheet). AMS Conference Office (Phone: TBA) The Lodge at Snowbird, Willows Room Office hours: Sunday - Wednesday: 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Thursday: 8:00 a.m. to noon. All participants should check in at this office for symposium- related materials. Expense Vouchers Each participant should be prepared to cover all travel and subsistence expenses incurred during the symposium, including those who have been offered support. Expense vouchers must be accompanied by copies of all travel receipts; they cannot be processed without them. Mail for participants should be addressed to: Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort Messages for participants may be left at the Lodge at Snowbird front desk by calling 801-933-2229. Social Events There will be morning and afternoon breaks featuring light refreshments. Registered participants are invited to attend a Welcome Reception on Sunday evening. In addition, an honor bar featuring soft drinks, wine, beer, and snacks will operate each Monday - Wednesday in Room 517 at The Lodge at Snowbird (adjacent to the email room). Email/Computers Email access will be provided in the Card Room at The Lodge at Snowbird. All participant parking will be free of charge.
Weekly rates for single occupancy rooms are US$948 per person; double occupancy rooms are US$660 per person. Rates include 6 nights lodging, beginning on Saturday night before the first day of the talks on Sunday, and 15 meals beginning with breakfast on Sunday. Restaurants are located throughout Snowbird Summer Resort for those arriving on Saturday. Accommodation for only one or two nights will be provided if requested in advance. Participants staying three nights or more will be charged the full package rate. Reservations: You will receive a Lodging Reservation Form with your letter of invitation. (Invitation letters will be mailed from the AMS after April 25.) Please send the completed form directly to Snowbird with a one night deposit fee paid either by check or by credit card; the balance is due upon arrival. Payment in full can be made by a major credit card or personal check. Changes to your reservations must be made by calling Snowbird directly. People with disabilities should make special requirements clear when submitting the form. See the Lodging Reservation Form for cancellation policies. Reservations can be made by faxing the form: 800-947-8227. Check-in and Checkout: The check-in desk at the Lodge at Snowbird will be staffed on a 24-hour basis. Check-in begins at 4:00 p.m. and is guaranteed by 6:00 p.m. Check-out time is 11:00 a.m. Meals Meals included in the symposium package will be served in Snowbird Center
in a private dining area, beginning with Sunday breakfast and ending with
dinner on Thursday. A complimentary continental breakfast will be served
on Friday morning. Buffet-style meals will include hot and cold entrees,
beverages, etc. Participants with special dietary restrictions should
indicate this on the housing form. Dining hours will be available at check
in. No credit is given for missed meals, nor will refunds be issued. Snowbird is only 25 miles (30 minutes) from downtown Salt Lake City and 29 miles (40 minutes) from the Salt Lake City International Airport. Shuttle service to Snowbird from the airport is provided by Canyon Transportation for US$52.00 (price subject to change) round-trip. Shuttle reservations can be made with your Lodging Reservation Form, or by phone: 800-255-1841. Driving Directions: We recommend using the following routes to Snowbird: From the airport: Take I-80 eastbound to I-215 southbound. Take Exit 6 and turn right, toward the mountains. This road will lead you straight to Ut-210 and up to Snowbird. From downtown Salt Lake City: Take 500 South St. westbound to I-15 southbound. Exit at the I-80 eastbound and exit onto the I-215 Beltway southbound. Take Exit 6 and turn left at the light. This road will lead you straight to Ut-210 and up to Snowbird. Special Travel Information for International Participants Visa regulations are continually changing for travel to the United States. Visa applications may take from three to four months to process and require a personal interview, as well as specific personal information. International participants should view the important information about traveling to the U.S. found at http://www7.nationalacademies.org/visas/Traveling_to_US.html and http://travel.state.gov/visa/index.html. If you need a preliminary conference invitation in order to secure a visa, please send your request to wsd@ams.org. This list is not to be considered complete. Please visit the web sites above for the most up-to-date information. Weather Normal daily temperatures range from 75 to 82 degrees F. Program/Presentation of Talks Lectures are scheduled to begin on Sunday morning and (tentatively) will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily through Thursday, unless specifically changed by the Organizing Committee. There may also be lectures scheduled in the evening. A copy of the program will be available at registration. Major lectures will be held in Snowbird Center, unless otherwise specified in your registration package. The lecture rooms are air-conditioned and equipped with whiteboards, two overhead projectors and screens, and a computer projector. Material for the preparation of transparencies is not available, and lecturers must bring their own prepared transparencies. If you are planning to bring or rent any computer equipment during the symposium, please be advised that neither Snowbird nor the AMS are responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged property belonging to the conference participants or their guests.
