The Members DTD contains the following elements and attributes.


elements/	description
attributes

members		This required element contains one or more member elements
		used to create the Combined Membership List.
 
society		This attribute of members identifies the source of the file.
		Values: MAA, SIAM, AWM, TYC, CMS, or MOS

member		This required element contains the information for a member.
		This element occurs 1 or more times.

rectype		This attribute of member identifies whether the member
		information needs to be added, updated, or deleted.
		Values: A (for add), U (for update), D (for delete)

memid		This required element contains the member id.
		The maximum length is 15 characters.

lname		This required element contains the last name.
		The maximum length is 31 characters.

fname		This optional element contains the first name.
		The maximum length is 31 characters.

mname		This optional element contains the middle name.
		The maximum length is 31 characters.

title		This optional element contains the title.
		The maximum length is 10 characters.
		Please refer to list of valid titles.  
		Examples: Dr, Lt, Rev, ...

suffix		This optional element contains the suffix.
		The maximum length is 10 characters.
		Please refer to list of valid suffixes.
		Examples: Jr, Sr, II, III, ...

birthdate	This optional element contains elements for the birthdate.

year		This optional element contains a 4-digit year.

month		This optional element contains a number from 1 to 12.

day		This optional element contains a number from 1 to 31.

address		This optional element contains the postal address.
		Address is required for add and update records.

addr1		This required element contains the first line of the
		address.  It can contain the institution name if this
		is a work address.  The maximum length is 50 characters.

addr2		This optional element contains the second line of the
		address.  The maximum length is 50 characters.

addr3		This optional element contains the third line of the
		address.  The maximum length is 50 characters.

city		This required element contains the city.  
		The maximum length is 50 characters.

stateprovince	This optional element contains a two or three-character code
		of the state or province.  See the attached list of codes.
		This element is required when the countrycode is US, CA, or GB, 
		and it must be empty (or absent) otherwise.

countrycode	This optional element contains the ISO 3166-1 two
		character country code.  Country defaults to US.

postalcode	This optional element contains the postal code.
		If in the US, it contains the five-digit or nine-digit
		zipcode (with hyphen).  Maximum length is 50 characters.

email		This optional element contains the email address.
		The maximum length is 75 characters.

phone		This optional element contains the phone number.
		The element occurs 0 to many times.
		The maximum length is 50 characters.
		The first two phones will be used.

type		This attribute of phone identifies the type of phone number.
		Values: WORK, HOME, FAX, or OTHER
		
position	This optional element contains the member's position at work.
		The maximum length is 50 characters.
		Examples: Asso Prof, Asst Prof, Dean, ...

institution	This optional element contains information about the member's
		institution.  Repeat the institution information even if it is in the address.

name		This required element contains the name of the institution.
		The maximum length is 50 characters.
