AMS Graduate Student Chapter Virtual Seminar Request
This form is available to AMS Graduate Student Chapters* for the purpose of requesting a virtual 1-hour seminar on the following topics. Once the form is received, staff will review the request and then contact the Chapter leader to discuss availability, topic(s), and format. Please allow 7 business days for a response.
Please choose one (1) of the following discussion topics. Additional topic requests require separate form submissions:
- Interacting with Elected Officials
- A group discussion with representatives of the AMS Office of Government Relations about engaging with elected officials to address policy issues of concern in the mathematical sciences community. Learn more about how your voice can make a difference for the profession.
- AMS Journal Publishing for Graduate Students
- A group discussion with representatives of the AMS Office of Publications on journal publishing for graduate students. Learn what to expect as you enter the journal publishing landscape. Topics include how to choose a journal when submitting your paper; how to define who is and isn't a co-author; what to expect of the peer review process; when to think about copyright and licensing; and more.
- AMS MathSciNet Demo
- MathSciNet demonstration for graduate students - Learn the basics of MathSciNet and get tips specifically aimed at students: looking at potential advisors, researching math departments for grad school, postdocs, or for jobs, profiles of individual mathematicians and specific journals, searching for publications, BibTeX info for making bibliographies, and more.
- AMS Programs
- A group discussion with representatives of the AMS Office of Programs on preparing for the AMS Sectionals and the Joint Mathematics Meetings. Learn what to expect as you navigate the AMS Graduate Student Travel Grant program, submit an abstract, prepare for interviews at the Employment Center, attend the Career Fair, and other meeting activities.
- Business, Entrepreneur, Government, Industry, and Nonprofit (BEGIN) Careers
- The AMS BEGIN Career Initiative can provide material support and consultation for locally focused BEGIN panel discussions, BEGIN experiential learning information, and BEGIN career readiness workshops.
