"Practical Fractals", by George Musser. Scientific American, July 1999,page 23.
Fractals have become well known to the general public as the subject of manyarresting computer-generated images. But they are more than just prettypictures. This article discusses the use of fractals in antenna design. Itturns out that arrays of antennas can be made more efficient when the array hasa fractal shape. A fractal shape can also improve the performance of anisolated antenna. The article notes that the mathematical results underpinningthese technological developments were presented in the March 1999 issue of thejournal Fractals.
