This is a review of a popular overview of the field of mathematics, written byFields Medalist Timothy Gowers. "He makes a very good job of introducing sucha huge topic, one that could easily have been distributed between half a dozenseparate volumes," the review states. Gowers organizes the book around theconcepts of abstraction, modeling, and proof and "succeeds well incommunicating a flavor of the pleasures to be gained from mathematics."
