"Some numbers you can't count on": Review of Imagining Numbers, by BarryMazur. Reviewed by Jonathan Heawood. The Observer, 18 May 2003.
"This is maths at its most lucid, and its most riddling," this review states. The idea of the book is to give readers some intuition about that staple ofhigh school algebra courses, imaginary numbers. The book is not an easy read:"I found that I needed more than pencil and paper to make these calculations. Ineeded a bigger brain," Heawood writes. Nevertheless, he found the book to befascinating and provocative.
