Lifting the Curtain: Using Topology to Probe the Hidden Action of Enzymes

De Witt Sumners

The action of an enzymate on a strand of DNA is a topological modification of the knot/link type of strand. A calculus of these modifications is developed in order to better understand the mechanisms and outcomes of these operations.

Off to Infinity in Finite Time

Donald G. Saari and Zhihong (Jeff) Xia

Are there solutions to the Newtonian equations of motion due to gravity which have noncollision singularities (bodies flying off to infinity in finite time)? This problem is solved by the construction by one of the authors of a five-body system which exhibits this phenomenon.
