Electronic File Specifications:
All electronic ad files must be submitted in PDF format.
We will not accept electronic ad files in any other format.
PDF files should be made with Acrobat Distiller; PDFs exported
from Adobe InDesign are acceptable.
Fonts:
- ALL fonts must be included. Type 1 PostScript fonts preferred.
Graphics:
- All graphics placed in a file should be placed
at 100% of their final printed dimensions or
at an effective resolution of 300 DPI* (placed
images which have been scaled to size will not
produce high-quality final images).
- Please adhere to minimum requirements for DPI
resolution for placed graphics:
- 1200 DPI for purely black and white images,
such as line art.
- 600 DPI for combinations of halftones (graphics
containing pictures [photos], text labeling,
and/or thin lines such as arrows).
- All fonts must be included, even fonts
in placed EPS graphics (such as, for instance,
a placed company logo). Include both printer
and screen fonts and, if using Illustrator,
save fonts as outline fonts when possible.
Do not stylize fonts using fonts menu.
*Dimension is interdependent with resolution.
For instance, consider a 72 DPI picture that is
1" x 1". If you scale that picture to
200% in InDesign, its "effective resolution" drops
to 36 DPI. (Effective Resolution = [Resolution
divided by % Scaled] x 100.)
For advertisers lacking desktop publishing
software or other technical capabilities for
producing ads, we will be happy to create
a simple ad consisting of text alone or text
and one graphic image. E-mail submission of your
text is preferred, and a scannable hard copy
of the graphic image is necessary. There will
be a minimal fee for this service.
Ads can be sent, as attachments to e-mail, to notices-ads@ams.org.
Please submit hard copy corresponding
to electronic ads so that we know exactly what
your ad is supposed to look like.
