Call for Proposals

Calls for Proposals / Mathematical scientists/faculty

The Institute for Computational and Experimental Research in Mathematics (ICERM) at Brown University encourages proposals for programs that support its mission to foster and broaden the relationship between mathematics and computation. We welcome pre-and-full proposals for semester programs, topical workshops, Summer@ICERM for undergraduate research, and Collaborate@ICERM for small team research.

SEMESTER PROGRAMS for 2020 and beyond: ICERM hosts two semester programs per year. Each has 5-10 organizers and typically incorporates 3 week-long associated workshops. Pre-proposal requirements: a 2-3 page document that describes the scientific goals, lists the organizers of the program, and identifies the key participants.

TOPICAL WORKSHOPS for summer 2018 and beyond: ICERM hosts several topical workshops each year. These workshops typically last 5 days and focus on a timely and exciting theme of interest. Proposal requirements: a 2 page document that describes the scientific goals, lists the organizers of the program, and identifies the key participants.

COLLABORATE@ICERM for winter 2017 and beyond: The small group research program offers teams of 3 to 6 researchers the opportunity to spend five days at the institute (winter and summer). Proposal requirements: 2-3 page description of the research project that specifies members of the team, and an explanation for why ICERM is the ideal place to meet.

SUMMER@ICERM for 2019 and beyond: Summer@ICERM is an 8-week undergraduate research program. It typically has 2 faculty leaders and several TAs in residence. Pre-proposal requirements: a 2-3 page document which identifies one faculty leader and potential partner(s), a short description of the focus of the program, and a sample list of 8-10 research projects suitable for undergraduates.

DEADLINE: Pre-proposals are accepted at any time; full proposal submissions are encouraged by October 1 and May 1, prior to the Scientific Advisory Board’s annual meeting and conference call. The ICERM directors and a subcommittee of the Scientific Advisory Board review all proposals and pre-proposals, and provide feedback within a few weeks of submission.
