Call for Proposals

Calls for Proposals / Mathematical scientists/faculty

The Institute for Computational and Experimental Research in Mathematics (ICERM) at Brown University encourages proposals for programs that support its mission to foster and broaden the relationship between mathematics and computation. We welcome proposals for semester programs, topical and Hot Topics workshops, Summer@ICERM for undergraduate research, and Collaborate@ICERM for small-team research.

SEMESTER PROGRAMS for 2020 and beyond: ICERM hosts two semester programs per year. Each has 5-10 organizers and typically incorporates 3 week-long associated workshops.

TOPICAL WORKSHOPS for summer 2020 and beyond: ICERM hosts several topical workshops each year. These workshops typically last 5 days and focus on a timely and exciting theme of interest.

COLLABORATE@ICERM for winter 2019 and beyond: This small-group research program offers teams of 3 to 6 researchers the opportunity to spend five days at the institute (winter and summer).

HOT TOPICS WORKSHOPS for 2018 and beyond: Hot Topics workshops are designed to allow ICERM to move quickly in order to start the public exploration of breakthroughs and emerging mathematical areas. They run 2-3 days and are organized on a few months' notice.

SUMMER@ICERM for 2019 and beyond: This is not your typical REU, in that ICERM provides comprehensive start-to-finish logistical support to the faculty organizers, including assistance recruiting TAs. In addition, faculty and TAs are paid summer salary with lodging support, and the average faculty/TA-to-student ratio is 3:1. This is an eight-week research program for 16-20 undergraduates. DEADLINE: Summer@ICERM proposals should be submitted to director@icerm.brown.edu by September 1st of each year.

DEADLINE (for everything but Summer@ICERM):
Proposals should be submitted to director@icerm.brown.edu. Annual target deadlines are October 1st and May 1st. ICERM Directors and the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) review all proposals. Proposers will receive feedback within a month of the SAB meeting.
