Research Memberships

Calls for Applications / Postdocs/early career, Mathematical scientists/faculty

MSRI awards Research Memberships at the January meeting of its Scientific Advisory Committee. These positions are reserved for researchers who will be in residence for at least 30 consecutive days and preference will be given to those who can attend for longer periods. It is expected that Research Members will visit MSRI with partial support from other sources. Applicants for Research Membership who require some living or travel support should indicate that in the MathJobs application.

The Complementary Program has a limited number of memberships that are open to mathematicians whose interests are not closely related to the core programs; special consideration will be given to mathematicians who are partners of an invited member of a core program. Interested partners should apply for a Research Membership in the Complementary Program on MathJobs www.MathJobs.Org (as described below). An applicant to a core program with a partner applying in the complementary program should indicate this fact in their application.

Eligibility: Mathematician with a PhD at the time of the proposed residency; financial support is not available for graduate students. Some preference is given to U.S. applicants.

Support: Research memberships may be offered with no support, with a travel allowance and/or with per diem support. Research Members who receive support for an extended visit normally are granted a travel allowance for one round-trip from their home institution. The per diem level is currently $3,750 per month. Members are eligible for per diem support only during their dates of residency while the program is in session.

Application Process: The application is to be completed online at the MathJobs website. Please read the instructions there before completing the form. Be sure to specify the program to which you are applying on MathJobs, and be careful to indicate the extent of support needed in the application form. Applications are reviewed by the Scientific Advisory Committee, the Human Resources Advisory Committee, and the Program Organizers.
