AMS Testifies Before House Appropriations Subcommittee

Jane M. Hawkins, AMS Treasurer and professor of mathematics at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, testified before the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies on March 22, 2012 at a hearing regarding FY2013 appropriations for the National Science Foundation (NSF). The NSF is the only federal agency that supports research and education across all fields of science, engineering and mathematics. Hawkins spoke about the importance of sustained federal investment in the NSF, whose programs increase and develop the knowledge base necessary for pushing the frontiers of science, mathematics, and engineering disciplines, developing new fields of inquiry and supporting technological innovation.
